Vietnam – Egypt: Strengthening cooperation in the construction sector

(Construction) – On September 27, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van welcomed Madam Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi Salama, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Egypt to Vietnam.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van and Ambassador Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi Salama discussed activities related to the upcoming 12th World Urban Forum (WUF).

The Deputy Minister stated that the Ministry of Construction is a governmental agency responsible for managing state affairs in various domains, including planning, architecture, construction investment, urban development, urban technical infrastructure, housing, and the real estate market. Therefore, through this meeting, the Deputy Minister expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and Egyptian partners, and he hoped that Ambassador Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi Salama would support the promotion of collaboration in the construction sector.

Ambassador Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi Salama expressed her gratitude to Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van for taking the time to meet with her and expressed her delight at the participation of the Ministry of Construction’s delegation in the upcoming World Urban Forum 12 (WUF 12) in Egypt.

With the theme “It All Starts at Home: Local Action for Sustainable Cities and Communities,” WUF 12 will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from November 4 to 8, 2024. This marks the first time in 20 years that the event is being held in Africa, featuring six important thematic groups addressing urbanization and current global challenges.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van also noted the recent economic losses caused by Storm Yagi, highlighting the impact of climate change on urban areas in Vietnam. He emphasized his desire to learn from other countries’ experiences in urban development.

In addition to participating in the Forum’s activities, the Ministry of Construction wishes to collaborate with UN-Habitat to organize a workshop titled “Pioneering in Urban Law Development in Vietnam and Sharing Experiences from Oman and Saudi Arabia.” This workshop aims to exchange international experiences in urban development and tackle urban challenges.

Ambassador Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi Salama affirmed her willingness to act as a bridge for organizing the workshop and expressed hope for the continued development of friendly relations between the two countries in the future.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van wished the Ambassador good health and success, and expressed a desire for close collaboration with the Ministry of Construction to enhance economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt, particularly in the construction sector.
